spot in the B final of the 200m Individual Medley.
One of the squads youngest
members, 12 year old Lauren Pirouet of InCAS, also produced some
admirable swims which bode well for her future. Pirouet swam an
aggressive 400m freestyle within the Girls 14 & Under event to finish in
5th position in a new personal best time of 4:35.61 setting a
new East District Age Group Record in the process and narrowly missing
out on the Scottish National Age Group Record by 0.2 second. She also

in 7th place within the Girls 14 & Under 800m freestyle in
another personal best time of 9:31.89.
Greg Watson, 16, of FINS,
displayed a steady improvement across the board following a hectic
programme of events seeing him compete in no less than 10 separate
events. Despite this heavy workload he secured entry to the B final of
the men’s 400m Individual Medley finishing in 4th position
and take 12th overall. Watson also swam well to gain entry to
the B final of the men’s 100m breaststroke event, again producing
another personal best swim to take 16th position overall.
The women’s ‘A’ relay team
consisting of Nichola Lamb, Tain Bruce, Lauren Pirouet and Louise Feenie
of Glenrothes ASC, put in fine performances within the 4 x 50m
freestyle and 4 x 100m freestyle relays to finish in 10th and
12th positions respectively.

Performance Swim Squad at the Championships were: Louise Feenie of
Glenrothes ASC; Hannah Gray, Harriet Gray, Katie Johnstone, Kieran Pate,
Morven Rae-Seaman, Arran Stowe, and Kirsty Wilson all of FINS; Rebecca
Turner and Greg Turner of Burntisland ASC; and Owen Green and Kayleigh
Hutton of InCAS.
Despite their formulative
years as a squad, the results on this national stage demonstrate the
significant improvements which are being realised since the squads
formation. The squad are seeking to build on these results and deliver
further success in next years Scottish National Age Groups Championships
and thereafter focus on the British National Age & Youth Championships

The second round of the East Districts
Age Group Championships, consisting entirely of 200m distances across
all strokes, took place over the weekend of 3 & 4 December at the Fife
Institute of Sport, Glenrothes, and once again InCAS swimmers
demonstrated their proficient standing within the East of Scotland
swimming fraternity with impressive displays across the weekend.
Tain Bruce, 13 years, had an outstanding
weekend’s competition in the Girls 13 years’ age group taking 3 Golds’
from the four events held across the weekend. Bruce opened her account
with a Gold medal in the final of the 100m butterfly in a time of
2:30.59, some 8 seconds ahead of her nearest rival. Tain went on to
secure her second Gold from the 200m backstroke with a fine swim of
2:26.27, an improvement of 3.78 seconds, and closed her weekend on a
high taking her third Gold from the final of the 200m breaststroke in
2:46.81. She also qualified and placed 6th within the final
of the 200m freestyle event. A fantastic exhibition of competitive
swimming across all four strokes demonstrating her quality.
InCAS freestyle specialist, twelve year
old Lauren Pirouet, once again demonstrated her aptitude within the
Girls 10-12 years 200m freestyle event to take a hard fought Gold in one
of the races of the weekend, in an astounding personal best time of
2:11.04. Pirouet had come through the preliminary rounds in second
fastest position, in a new personal best time of 2:14.26, and the final
proved to be an outstanding contest against the fastest qualifier from
Kelso with both swimmers pushing each other hard with Lauren Pirouet
pushing through the 150m mark to take the touch and achieve a time that
places her at No. 2 in the GB Rankings. Pirouet complimented the Gold
securing a Silver medal from the final of the 200m backstroke after
recording a new personal best in the preliminary rounds, 2:29.86, but
couldn’t quite match this within the final. Lauren also swam well within
the 200m butterfly preliminary rounds recording a new personal best time
of 2:39.41, an 11.11 second improvement, and went on to take the Bronze
medal in the final in a slightly slower time of 2:41.98. Pirouet also
rounded off her weekend with a personal best time achieved from the 200m
breaststroke in 3:06.75, and went on to secure the 6th
position within the final.
Equally as impressive, twelve year old
Jack Harrison put in a huge effort and was rewarded with four personal
best times from four swims, taking Silver medals within the finals of
the 200m backstroke and 200m freestyle events in the Boys’ 10-12 years
age group. Harrison had secured his spot in the final of the 200m
backstroke after a fantastic swim of 2:28.69 in the preliminary rounds,
and was just edged out of the top spot. His second Silver came from
freestyle event in which he has been recording significant improvements
of late. Proving he is a force to reckon with Harrison touched in with a
new personal best of 2:15.49, taking some 7 seconds off his previous.
Also enjoying a podium finish thirteen
year old Owen Green took the Bronze medal in the final of the 200m
butterfly in the Boys’ 13 years age group in a time of 2:40.36 just off
his pb. Owen also came through the preliminary rounds to reach the final
of the 200m breaststroke placing 6th and recording a 6.48
second improvement in 2:54.86. He also recorded a huge 8.38 second
improvement from the 200m backstroke, and just missed out on the finals
of the 200m freestyle finishing in 7th spot overall.
Also enjoying the Championships, 10 year
old Harris Bruce, was not phased by the quality of swimmers despite his
lesser age and swam extremely well to record four personal best times
from his four events, the most significant coming within the 200m
backstroke and a 9.06 second improvement . Training partner, 11 year old
JJ Moultrie-Waring also put in a good display of strong swims within his
two events to achieve three personal best times, the first coming from
the 200m backstroke, placing 8th overall and a 7.26 personal
best time in 2:43.87. His second race, the 200m freestyle proved
productive in providing personal best times for both the 200m and also
the 100m split time. Also swimming well, 11 year old James Gray recorded
an improvement of 5.28 seconds to record a new time of 3:21.67 from the
boys 10-12 years 200m breaststroke.
Also competing across the weekend were
brothers Conor and Joe Nally who both recorded personal best times of 5
seconds, Conor within the 200m breaststroke and Joe from the 200m
backstroke. Also coming away with an improvement to her times was 16
year old Kayleigh Hutton within the girls’ 16 years and over age group
recording a time of 2:35.66 and a 2.69 second improvement from the 200m
backstroke. Also competing within the 200m breaststroke events were 14
year olds Gabby Gatherer and Erin Brown, coming in on 3:17.33 and
3:04.91 respectively.
A good weekend’s work from the small
group of InCAS swimmers achieving 4 Gold’s, 3 Silver’s, 2 Bronze; and
more significantly a huge haul of 31 personal best times.
The concluding weekend of the East
District Age Group Championships is some way off, 4 & 5 February 2012,
however with the Scottish National Short Course Championships and the
reintroduction of the Scottish Swimming Grand Prix Circuit, not
withstanding other competitions, these swimmers shall be kept busy in

Inverness.
Team mate, eleven year old JJ Moultrie-Waring
swam an equally controlled race to record a new personal best time of
5:16.36 in the boys 10-12 years 400m freestyle, a 14 second improvement
and place 10th overall.
Twelve year old Joe Nally, also recorded
a time in the 400m freestyle just outside of his previous time, 5:33.36,
this despite his drop in training due to other sporting pursuits.
Keeping it in the family, fourteen year old Conor Nally, also recorded
three swims over the course of the weekend in the 400m freestyle, 1500m
freestyle and the 400m IM, with his times just outside of his current
pb’s.
A good weekend’s work from these InCAS
swimmers achieving 5 Gold’s, 2 Bronze; 1 East District Age Group Record,
a Scottish National qualifying time, a British National qualifying time
and a huge haul of 13 personal best times.

CARNEGIE SC WINTER MEET REPORT
|
A small group of InCAS
swimmers competed within Carnegie SC’s annual Winter Meet held over the
weekend of 29 & 30 October at the Fife Institute of Sport, Glenrothes.
The meet attracting some of Scotland’s biggest swimming stars such as
Robbie Renwick and Corrie Scott, both of whom successfully represented
Scotland at the recent Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
Young InCAS swimmer James
Gray stood out as the top InCAS performer with an impressive display of
swimming within the boys 10-11 years age group of the Competition to
bring home a Gold, two Silver and two Bronze medals.
Eleven year old James’s Gold
was secured in the 200m IM event, recording a new personal best time of
3:08.33, an improvement of 9 seconds. The Silver medals came from the
100m breaststroke, in a time of 1:35.50, and the 100m IM in 1:29.27,
both of which were once again personal improvements. Gray rounded off
his collection of all medals with the Bronze’s from the 50m freestyle,
touching in on 35.77, and the 100m butterfly in 1:45.18. A great
weekends results for the youngster.
Team mate, twelve year old
Jack Harrison, competing in the boy’s 12-13 years age group recorded two
personal improvements from his two swims, the 100m IM, a 3 second
improvement, and the 200m backstroke event, a 1.2 second reduction.
InCAS females were
represented by sixteen year old Kayleigh Hutton, and fourteen year old
Gabby Gatherer. Kayleigh enjoyed a busy schedule of seven events over
the weekend and managed to record consolidated results with 50%
obtaining personal improvements on her times, with the best coming from
her 200m backstroke in 2:38.45 and the 200m IM in a time of 2:41.11. A
jet lagged Gabby, just returned from holiday, recorded a time of 3:20.47
from her 200m breaststroke event. |

DUNEDIN CHALLENGE MEET REPORT |
A small squad of InCAS
swimmers opened their accounts for the 2011/12 season competing in the
Dunedin Swim Team Challenge Meet held at the Fife Institute of Sport,
Glenrothes over the weekend of 3 and 4 September 2011.
The meet was well attended
by 22 Clubs, and circa 300 swimmers from all other Scotland providing an
opportunity to secure benchmark times given the meet is one of the first
competitive meets of the new season. Due to the early stage within the
season InCAS Coaches were seeking to consolidate technique as opposed to
focusing upon securing personal best times however a large number of
swims surpassed these expectations and obtained podium finishes.
Top of the medal haul for
InCAS was 9 year old Harris Bruce competing in the Boy’s 10 & Under age
group. An outstanding weekend’s swimming saw this young swimmer secure 7
Gold’s in the 100m breaststroke (1:40.31); 50m breaststroke (39.40);
100m backstroke (1:23.04); 100m individual medley in a new meet record
time of 1:25.57; 50m butterfly in another meet record time of 36.16;
100m butterfly setting a third meet record in 1:22.93; 100m freestyle
(1:14.22), a Silver in the 50m backstroke (39.40) and a Bronze in the
50m freestyle (34.29). These swims saw Harris deliver an astounding 5
personal best times, and undoubtedly the Top Boy in the 10 & Under age
group.
Also amongst the medals was
11 year old James Gray who secured Silver in the Boy’s 11/12 age group
100m breaststroke in a new personal best time of 1:38.07. James also
went to obtain personal best times in the 100m IM and took an incredible
3 seconds off his 50m butterfly in 43.18.
12 year old Jack Harrison,
also swimming in the 11/12 years age group, also celebrated a podium
placing with a Bronze medal from the 50m backstroke event in a time of
35.14. Harrison also managed to record three personal best times
throughout the course of the meet from the 100m backstroke, 50m and the
100m freestyle events.
In the girls 15 years and
over age group, 16 year old Kayleigh Hutton secured a Bronze medal in
the 50m backstroke event in a time of 35.66
A number of other InCAS
swimmers also demonstrated their intent for the coming season with many
recording personal best times: Dana Brand, 3 pb’s from 100 back, 50m
free and 100m free; Erin Brown, 1 pb from 200m free; Gabby Gatherer, 1
pb from the 100m IM; Millie Knox, 3 pc’s in the 100m IM, 50m back, 50m
free; and Ellie Turner, 4 pb’s in 50m breast, 50m back, 50m free, and
100m free.
The remaining InCAS swimmers
despite not recording pb times did deliver swims to be pleased with,
these included Rachel Ingram; Kelsey Knox; and Cara
Smyth.
In all a productive weekend
for InCAS achieving 7 gold’s; 2 silver’s; 2 bronze’s and a haul of 22
personal best times. |

PENTLAND FIRTH OPEN WATER REPORT |
New Record for Pentland Firth Swim
At 6pm on Wednesday 24th August open water
masters swimmer Andrea Gellan set off from South Ronalday in Orkney to
swim the 7.5km across the Pentland Firth. She arrive at Duncansby Head
on the mainland of Scotland at 8.40 pm, completing the swim in a record
time 2 hours 40 mins, 2 hours quicker than any previous attempt to swim
the Firth . Andrea is the first person to successfully swim the route
from South Ronaldsay to Duncansby Head.
‘The swim was just amazing. I have never experienced so
many different water states in one swim. The water was flat at the
start- like swimming through quick silver. Then I hit the whirlpools
where the tides meet. They were fun to swim through- very choppy water
first then loads of bubbles and I could feel my body twisting with the
forces. Then I hit very choppy water which was really difficult to swim
through. I swallowed water and felt sick. Then I was into large rolling
waves which were much easier. My boatman Hamish told me I only had a
mile and a half to go. I could see the cliffs at Duncansby point getting
closer and closer. The sun was beginning to set behind the cliffs. We
were so close I could see all the striations in the rock face. I swam in
through the swirling water, changing from dark blue to light azure
towards the cliff face. It was surreal to be at the bottom of the cliff
face amongst the waves and rocks looking up at the lighthouse.
She was accompanied throughout her swim by a safety boat
piloted by Hamish Mowatt , who steered a straight course through the strong
tides, her husband Alistair who supplied her with warm energy drinks and
Carole Mowatt.
In addition to setting a new record Andrea has raised
over £1200 towards aid for the east Africa drought crisis appeal as
well.

Honda dealers West End Garage, is organised by Ye Amphibious Ancients
Bathing Association which is based in Broughty Ferry.
Repeating
her success from earlier in the season in the Tayport Cup, InCAS swimmer
Jennifer Milligan (14), who led the field in the early stages of the one
mile course, eventually came home in fourth place overall but in first
place in the junior category to take the gold medal in a time of 26
minutes and 57 seconds. The start and early sections of the race were
filmed by STV for their coverage of local news in Dundee.

SCOTTISH GAS SCOTTISH OPEN WATER
CHAMPIONSHIPS |
Scottish Gas Scottish
Open Water Championships 2011 Report
A member of InCAS has
successfully returned from her first taste of National level competition
after competing in the Scottish Gas Scottish Open Water Swimming
Championships held at Milton of Morenish, Loch Tay over the weekend of 6th
& 7th August.
Despite the idyllic setting,
the weather unfortunately degraded generating difficult conditions and
lowering the water temperature, thus making the course even tougher for
the competitors.
Regardless of these
conditions, Fourteen year old Gabby Gatherer, still a relative novice to
the sport given she is still within her first year of transition to open
water competition, demonstrated admirably quality and determination.
Gabby chose to waver entry into the 1 Km Novice event, and selected
entry into the 13-14 years age group 2 Km Open Competition showing a
true reflection of her grit and will.
Gabby swam extremely
throughout the race despite it being her first experience of swimming in
an open water loch, and battled hard in the closing stages against her
experienced adversaries in a fight for the second/third position, and
was just pipped on the line to take the Bronze medal in a time of
32:30.00. This time delivered a 2 ½ minute improvement upon her previous
time undertaken as recently as six weeks ago at the East District Open
Water Championships held at the relatively sheltered Loch Ore Meadows.
Nonetheless, the result is a major achievement for this aspiring open
water swimmer in her first national competition securing a podium finish
and placing third in Scotland.
Gabby trains predominantly
with the Fife Performance Swim Squad, with InCAS being her home Club.
She also competes with Dunfermline Water Polo Club and has been selected
to represent Scotland Girls at the forthcoming Tri-Nationals Cup to be
held in Limerick, Ireland between the 19-21 August, which shall see
Scotland compete against Finland and Ireland.

BRITISH GAS ASA NATIONAL AGE GROUP
CHAMPIONSHIPS |
British Gas ASA National
Age Group Championships Report
Two members of InCAS, Thirteen
year old Tain Bruce and Eleven year old Lauren Pirouet,
returned from the grand finale of this season’s swimming calendar after
competing at the British Gas ASA National Age Group Championships held
at the international venue of Ponds Forge, Sheffield between 21-25 July
2011.
The swimmers, competing
within the composite Fife Performance Swim Squad, were against the very
best of age group swimmers, aged between 11 to 14 years, from across
Britain. The high standard of qualification for the event resulted in
limited swimmers from across Scotland achieving consideration times for
the Championships. Indeed qualification in it’s own right is a
significant achievement for any swimmer.
The first day of the
Championships opened with Tain Bruce competing in the preliminary heats
of the opening event, the girls 200m IM. Tain opened her account with a
time of 2:33.79, just outside of her personal best, and saw her place in
31st position overall from a strong field of 54.
Teammate 11 year old Lauren
Pirouet started her Championships with a bang in her preliminary heat of
the girl’s 100m freestyle. A strong first 50m of 31.07 saw Lauren touch
in with a time of 1:04.60 which not only saw her qualify in 6th
place for the finals but also set a new East District age group record
by over 1 second. Barely rested, Pirouet continued with her good form in
the heats of the 200m backstroke event, once again proving her worth on
the National stage with another finals qualification performance
recording a time of 2:38.48, which also set a new East District Age
group record.
The evening of day 1 saw
Lauren Pirouet take her place in her inaugural British National’s finals
commencing with the girl’s 11 years 100m freestyle final under the glare
of the TV lighting and expectant atmosphere . The depth and quality of
the field was apparent, and Pirouet reaching a finals position had
already achieved a primary target. Her opening 50 metres was swam
aggressively, allowing her to turn in 7th position, and
strike for home finishing in 1:04.38 placing 7th overall.
This time once again broke her East District Age Group Record set
literally hours before.
Two finals in one evening
was indeed a fine opening to this promising 11 year old ‘s
Championships, and the final of the girl’s 11 years 200m backstroke
event was again a tough affair given she was entering in 9th
position. A controlled first 100m saw Lauren move up a couple of
positions however her 3rd 50m saw her ultimately finish in 9th
position in a time of 2:38.12, shaving some further time off her earlier
qualifying time, and in the process setting another new East District
age group record. An excellent opening day of two qualifying swims, two
finals and four East District age group records.
The morning of the second
day of the Championships opened with Lauren Pirouet competing in the
preliminary heats of the girls 400m freestyle in which she swam a
controlled race leading from the front with precision splits to ensure
her place in the final for the girls 11 years age group in a time of
4:48.05, placing the 3rd fastest entry time, and incredibly
break yet another East District age group record. Tain Bruce
followed stepping up onto the blocks to start her second day of
competition in the 100m butterfly heats. In yet another outstanding
field of competition from across the UK Tain swam admirably with a
strong return leg to touch in on 1:08.52, unfortunately narrowly missing
out on a finals position.
The evening of day 2 hosted
the finals from the day’s competition, and once again the atmosphere was
outstanding with a packed spectators gallery showing their support for
the finalists. Lauren Pirouet stepped onto the floodlight finals stage
in the opening event of the evening with nine other competitors from
across Great Britain, Ireland and the United Arab Emirates, with a
strong contest expected with many swimmers raising their game for the
final. Not deterred by the circumstances Pirouet went out hard in the
first 50m and turned in pole position in a time 31.57. She continued
with her determined, yet controlled swim in the knowledge many of her
competitors would be pressing her through the latter stages of the race
and she settled into third place. It was evident after the first 200m
the contest for a podium finish was available for the taking, and
Pirouet rose to the challenge digging deep through the third quarter of
the race to maintain her stroke and pace to allow her to attack for the
finish in the final 50m in which she held off strong competition to take
third place in a time of 4:43.20, setting a new Scottish National age
group record and also two new East District age group records in the
process. Pirouet was however awarded with the Silver medal due to the
first placed swimmer being from outwith the UK. A well deserved result
for the young Scottish swimmer.
The third day of the
Championships, Saturday, saw the two InCAS swimmers rise for another day
of tough swimming with Lauren competing in the girls 200m freestyle
event, followed by Tain Bruce in her favoured event, the 200m butterfly,
and Pirouet moving onto the 800m freestyle later in the day.
As with every race at this
level of meet there were no easy heats, and Pirouet required to record
yet another personal best swim to even be considered for the finals
later in the day. Lauren didn’t disappoint and once again displayed a
calm exterior to deliver another personal best time of 2:18.73 to book
her place in the evening’s final. The time also gave her another East
District age group record, and was a mere 0.4 seconds off the Scottish
National age group record for 11 years.
Tain Bruce was also in
attendance on the third morning competing in the girls 13 years 200m
butterfly event, a tough race whatever the circumstances. Lining up in
heat 5 against her adversaries Bruce went out ahead of her personal best
in a time of 33.06 at the 50m mark, and improved upon this at the
halfway point at 100m in 1:10.45. The final 100m was a tough affair but
she dug deep to bring her home in a time of 2:31.22. Disappointment
however in the form of a technical infringement at the start of race
unfortunately saw Tain disqualified.
Lauren Pirouet returned to
Ponds Forge for the afternoon session, and one of her favoured events
the 800m freestyle which would be a heat declared winner and as such
treated as a finals scenario. Pirouet lined up in her heat focused and
ready for the task ahead. An excellent first 100m took her out ahead of
the pack and saw her settle into racing from the front. Her main
competitor in the heat from Dubai eventually tussled the lead from
Lauren, but Pirouet reacted well and tracked her through the 200, 400
and 600 metre marks. Sensing her time was on target Lauren pushed ahead
in the final 200 metres to bring her home in a time of 9:44.17, not only
setting yet another East District record but also smashing the Scottish
National Age Group Record which previously stood at 9:56.29. This
impressive performance eventually saw Lauren lift the Gold medal, and
the title of Age Group Champion of Great Britain.
Following this fantastic
swim, Pirouet had little time to recover and focus for her final of the
200m freestyle held during the evening of Day 3. Once again a host of
international swimmers delivered their best wishes via video links, and
the stage was once more set for an evening of superb swimming. Lauren
Pirouet took her place once again on the finals stage, and managed to
deliver yet another fine performance touching in on 2:18.75, literally
matching her entry time, and giving her a 6th place overall.
No mean feat considering she was still recovering from perhaps her swim
of the Championships hours before.
Day 4 brought yet an other
qualifying round for Lauren Pirouet in the girls 100m backstroke event,
and given the weeks exertions, the question was could she once again
produce a personal best swim to have a chance of qualifying for the
evenings finals. Pirouet responded with an outstanding performance going
out in the first 50 metres on her personal best time and raising the
pace on the return leg to record a time of 1:13.90 which surpassed
expectations and saw her qualify for the final in 6th
position. The time also set her 10th East District Age Group
record of the Championships.
The morning also saw the
arrival of two more Fife Performance Swim Squad members, 12 year old
Morven Rae-Seaman and 13 year old Rachel Smith, who together with Tain
and Lauren formed the quartet for the girls 4x200m freestyle relay
event. The team had qualified after winning the Scottish National Age
Groups earlier in the year. Rachel Smith as lead swimmer set off in a
fast paced heat and it was clear the competition was fierce. Morven
Rae-Seaman took over the second leg for her 200m freestyle passing over
to Pirouet, with Tain Bruce bringing home the team in an unofficial time
of 2:35.19.
The penultimate evening of
the Championships saw Pirouet once again in the finals arena on this
occasion for the girls 11 years 100m backstroke final. Given the
previous improvement in her time, the final indeed presented a challenge
for Lauren knowing full well nothing less than another improvement would
be required. She went out hard in 36.16 but came back in the second 50
metres even harder bringing in her 11th East District record
with a new personal best time of 1:13.76 and placing 7th
overall.
The final day of the
Championships brought both Tain Bruce and Lauren Pirouet back for their
final events of the competition, the 400m Individual Medley. First to
take to the blocks was Tain Bruce as she had qualified through a short
course entry time despite her time being significantly better than the
later heats achieved at long course standard. Tain’s first leg of
butterfly was on pb to allow her transfer into the backstroke 100m in
the middle of the pack. Tain’s breaststroke leg however was outstanding
and saw her pull herself right up the field and well placed for the
final 100m freestyle in which she brought herself home to touch in on
5:23.24 and place 16th overall, an excellent swim to conclude
her week’s competition.
Next up, Lauren Pirouet, was
looking to also close on a high. Lauren went out hard allowing her to
close her first 100m slightly ahead of her pb, however perhaps taking
too much out of her after a hard weeks swimming as the next two legs of
backstroke and breaststroke saw Pirouet slightly behind her times but a
strong final 100m freestyle saw her reduce that deficit to finish in a
time of 5:41.76.
In all an outstanding
display of swimming against the very best of competitors from Britain
and beyond for both Tain Bruce and Lauren Pirouet, with the latter
returning home as British Champion.

EAST DISTRICT OPEN WATER OPEN
CHAMPIONSHIPS REPORT |
The dismal weather
experienced at Lochore Meadows on Saturday 18 June did not dampen the
results for two InCAS swimmers who were competing in the East District
Open Water Championships 2011.
Despite the weather the
Championships brought together many swimmers from across Scotland for
the Open meet, which also doubled as the East District Championships,
across a variety of age group categories.
Fourteen year old Gabby
Gatherer, swimming in her first Open Championships endured the chilly
waters and swam extremely well to take the Silver medal in the 13/14
years 2 Km Open category, a fantastic achievement given the adverse
weather conditions and a resultant water temperature of only 14 ⁰C,
which forced many swimmers to withdraw from completing the race. This
swim also crowned Gabby as Champion in the 13/14 years East District
members category.
InCAS teammate, 14 yr old
Jennifer Milligan, competing in the 15/16 years age group also succeeded
in securing the Silver medal in the 2 Km Open category despite swimming
against older competitors. This results comes on the back of her recent
success at last weekend’s Tayport Trophy Competition and exhibits
Jennifer’s natural aptitude for this form of swimming which is becoming
increasingly popular throughout Britain.
Both swimmers train with
InCAS as their home Club, with Gabby also training with the Fife
Performance Swim Squad, and also competing within the Caledonia water
polo team. |

InCAS DISTANCE MEET REPORT & TAYPORT
CUP OPEN WATER REPORT |
InCAS once again hosted
their annual Distance Meet which is specifically geared towards
providing younger swimmers an opportunity to compete within the longer
distances of the swimming competition events, and also provide the
prospect to secure National Squad selection times for Bronze squad
training camps run by Scottish Swimming.
The meet attracted Clubs
from all across Scotland, from as far north as Nairn, Buckie, and
Aberdeen and as far south as Duns, and the field of swimmers was indeed
of high calibre, however, this did not prevent the host Club, with
limited numbers compared to the larger contingents, from finishing
second overall following many fine results across the course of the
weekend.
Two InCAS swimmers succeeded
in breaking three Scottish National Age Groups over the course, together
with three East District Age Group records. 12 year old Tain Bruce
swimming in only four events due to illness managed to take four Gold’s,
breaking the 12 years Scottish National Age Group Record for the 400m IM
in a time of 5:08.24, which is also a new East District Record and a
British Age Group qualifying time. Tain also won Golds in the 200m IM
(2:27.11); 200m butterfly (2:29.77); and also the 200m breaststroke
(2:49.92).
Equally as impressive over
the weekend was fellow training partner 11 year old Lauren Pirouet who
went one step further and broke two Scottish National Age Group Records.
Pirouet’s first record came from a controlled swim in the 800m freestyle
in a time of 9:45.97, an impressive four seconds off the previous
Scottish record. Lauren’s second national record was secured in the 400m
freestyle on Sunday, swimming aggressively to lift the record in a time
of 4:42.20. Both swims secured Gold’s for this promising 11 year old
competing in the girls 11-12 years age group, and also broke two East
District Age Group records in the process. Lauren went on to compliment
her Gold’s with a Silver in the 200m freestyle, and also two Bronze
medals from the 200m backstroke and the 200m butterfly. These results
together with a 5th place in the 200m IM event resulted in
Lauren finishing in 2nd place in the girls 11-12 years group.
In terms of medal haul,
young 9 year old Harris Bruce, swimming the Boy’s 10 years and under age
group secured the Best Boy award following Gold’s in the 200m butterfly
(3:09.50); 1500m freestyle (21:37.15); 200m IM (3:02.61); 400m IM
(6:16.74), and Silver’s in the 200m breaststroke (3:31.90); 200m
freestyle (2:36.13); 200m backstroke (2:57.56); and the 400m freestyle
(5:48.03). A remarkable achievement for this youngster competing against
swimmers a year older.
In the same age group, 10
year old teammate JJ Moultrie-Waring enjoyed a 100% success rate of 3
Gold’s from 3 swims in the 200m freestyle (2:32.19); 200m backstroke
(2:51.13) and the 400m freestyle (5:30.36). Closely following behind
was 10 year old James Gray who also enjoyed a successful meet securing
four medals from his four events. James topped the podium to take Gold
in the 200m breaststroke (3:26.95). This was followed by a Silver medal
in the 200m IM, and two Bronze medals from the 200m freestyle, and also
the 400m freestyle.
In the girls 10 and under
age group, InCAS swimmers took all three medals in the 800m freestyle
event with 10 year old Leighona Harper winning Gold, (14:06.56), closely
followed by Dana Brand in Silver position (14:09.08), and Erin Hogg in
Bronze (15:26.86). A fantastic result for these swimmers in their first
ever competitive distance event. 10 year old Dana Brand also went on to
expand her medal collection with two further bronze’s from the 200m
breaststroke and the 200m backstroke. Also obtaining a top six finish in
the age group was 10 year old Millie Knox who took fifth place in the
200m backstroke (3:32.23), an 11.5 second improvement. Olivia Ballantine,
also aged 10, closely followed behind to take the sixth place in the
200m backstroke (3:32.84).
The boys older age group
11-12 years saw 11 year old Jack Harrison continue to grow in
confidence, particularly in the 200m backstroke in which he placed 3rd
in a new PB time of 2:37.04. Jack also placed in the top six with a
fifth place in the 400m freestyle (5:01.40); and two sixth place
finishes from the 1500m freestyle (20:07.83), and the 200m freestyle
(2:23.97). Also competing in the 11-12 boys was Hayden Moffat, in his
final meet representing InCAS prior to emigrating to Australia. Hayden
took a massive 34 seconds off his previous 400m IM in a new time of
6:09.35, and also recorded two further huge PB’s in the 400m freestyle
and the 200m butterfly event. Fellow teammate, 11 year old Joe Nally,
also recorded a 10 second PB’s from his 400m freestyle, and 200m
butterfly swims, which was a great achievement following his reduced
training regime. Also performing well and securing a number of personal
best times was 11 year old Kieran Wilson in his first distance meet.
In the older groups, 14 year
old Gabby Gatherer swam extremely well to secure some impressive PB
times which saw her take 6 seconds off her 200m breaststroke (3:12.15);
5 seconds off her 200m freestyle; and 4 seconds from her 100m butterfly
split in the 400m IM event. Gabby recorded a total of 7 PB times from
the meet.
Swimming well within the
boy’s 13-14 years age group was 14 year old Conor Nally, who was
rewarded with a Silver medal in the 200m butterfly event in a time of
2:37.04, a 9 second improvement. Conor also went on to place fourth in
both the 200m IM (2:33.40); 400m IM (5:20.68); and two sixth place
finishes from the 200m freestyle (2:14.11) and 400m freestyle (4:41.11).
Other InCAS swimmers who
obtained Personal Best times, and indeed recorded their first times at
these distance events were Emily Adams; Erin Donaldson; Kelsey Knox;
Rowan Ormiston; and Cara Smyth.
With limited numbers the
InCAS results punched above their weight, placing them above the larger
Clubs of Warrender and City of Aberdeen in the final Club standings.
Club Vice-President, Derek
Pirouet, commented ‘The success and results achieved over the course of
this weekend bear testament InCAS are a swimmer focused Club
accomplished at nurturing and developing outstanding swimmers as
demonstrated by the times recorded across all age groups within the
Club.’.
Not to be outdone by their
pool colleagues, two members of the InCAS Club were competing on Sunday
in the Tayport Cup Open Water Meet, which has been held on the River Tay
since 1970. The event is one of the more prestigious within the Open
Water Calendar, and the success of the indoor swimmers was reflected
equally as strongly by both the Club President, Andrea Gellan, and
Jennifer Milligan.
14 Year old Jennifer
Milligan, who has been migrating more into the Open Water events showed
her promising talent for the sport in securing the Hart Trophy for the
fastest Junior Girl, 16 years and under, in a time of 23:45 which was
also the fastest of the day. Teammate Andrea Gellan finished in second
place behind Jennifer in a time of 24:09, a 2 minute 19 second
improvement over previous years, and won the Tayport Trophy for first
female, 16 years and over swimmer. Both swimmers were awarded with Ian D
McIntosh gold medals for their outstanding swims. |

DUNFERMLINE ASC JUNIOR SPRINT MEET
RESULTS & REPORT |
A number of younger InCAS
swimmers competed in the annual Dunfermline Amateurs Swimming Club
Sprint Meet held at Glenrothes on Saturday 28 May 2011. The meet aimed
specifically towards the younger age groups within the swimming
fraternity, and what a fantastic demonstration of swimming skills the
InCAS swimmers delivered.
Top InCAS swimmer on the day
was 9 year old Harris Bruce, who dominated his age group taking Gold in
all four individual events, a meet record and also the Top Boy Award for
the 9 years age group. Harris’s first gold came in his opening event,
the 25m butterfly in which he not only recorded a new personal best time
of 16.83, but also set a new meet record in impressive form. This swim
set the benchmark for the day for this young star, and he delivered a
further three wins in the 50m breaststroke, shaving 0.53 seconds from
his personal best time; 100m IM in 1:24.95; 50m freestyle in 33.88
seconds; and 50m backstroke, again in a pb time of 39.18. A fantastic
achievement and display by the young swimmer.
Despite the above results,
other InCAS swimmers were hot on the heels of Harris, also demonstrating
their quality and worth within the meet.
In the boy’s 10 years age
group JJ Moultrie-Waring enjoyed an excellent day of competition in
which he battled hard all day against a new adversary from Grangemouth.
JJ opened his day with a tough swim in the 100m IM event, in which he
was literally just touched out at the finish to take 2nd
place, but succeeded in taking a massive 4.93 seconds off his previous
personal best time recording a new time of 1:24.51. Teammate 10 year old
James Gray also swam extremely well which resulted in him securing the
bronze medal, and lowered his pb time by a huge 6.73 seconds to 1:34.88.
The battle continued to the
next round, with JJ Moultrie-Waring raising the level in the boys 50m
backstroke to take podium place and gold ahead of his competition in a
new pb time of 38.28. Again, teammate James Gray closely followed behind
recording another significant pb time taking 2.34 seconds off. The
morning session saw Moultrie-Waring in another hard fought contest in
the 50m freestyle event in an excellent race in which he took silver in
a time of 37.89, just 0.1 off the gold. James Gray also finished the
morning session on a high, securing another bronze medal to add to his
collection. The afternoon session saw a role reversal as James Gray took
top spot and Gold in the boy’s 10 years 50m breaststroke event, in which
James finished in 44.98, with JJ coming in to take 4th place.
The final event of the day for this age group saw JJ Moultrie-Waring
once again take the gold medal in the 50m butterfly. JJ’s time of 39.38
was a new pb time by an improvement of 0.91 second. James Gray also
secured his third medal of the day with another bronze but in doing so
recorded a massive pb taking 1.74 seconds off his previous.
In the boys 11 years age
group, InCAS were represented by Kieran Wilson who also swam well to
indicate the depth of talent within the Club. Kieran opened his account
with a strong swim and well deserved silver medal in the 50m freestyle
event taking 0.99 off his time of 34.05. With success breeds success,
and this was evident with Kieran capturing a second silver in the boys
11 years 100m IM. The medal was however outshone by scale of his
improvement, taking an astounding 25.64 seconds off his previous
personal best time. Kieran complimented these result with a bronze medal
from the 50m butterfly in a time of 44.95, an improvement of 1.34.
Not to be outdone by their
male teammates, the InCAS female swimmers also swam well to record a
varying degree of success across the board, but more importantly
personal best times were being recorded in abundance. Worthy of note
were the swims by the newer members who enjoyed their baptism into
competitive swimming were 8 year old Katelyn MacNeil who recorded
massive personal best times in the girls 25m butterfly and 25m freestyle
events; as did 8 year old Erin Hutton in the 25m backstroke and secured
her first competitive medal.
Other InCAS swimmers who
celebrated personal best times were: Dana Brand; Lee Harrison; Rebecca
Wilson; Rowan Ormiston; Leighona Harper; Erin Donaldson; Cara Smyth;Erin
Hogg; Andrew Morris; Olivia Ballantine; and Rachel Ingram.
Whilst the InCAS swimmers
were triumphant across their individual events, they also tasted success
in the relay events, securing further medals. The 10 and 11 years age
group team of Kieran Wilson, Olivia Ballantine, JJ Moultrie-Waring and
Rowan Ormiston secured bronze in the mixed 100m medley relay event. They
also improved upon his position to take the silver medal in the mixed
100m freestyle relay. However the relay event of the day, the mixed 200m
freestyle cannonball relay put the biggest smiles on many of the InCAS
swimmers in which they take the bronze medal. The team consisted of Erin
Hutton; Katelyn MacNeil; Rebecca Wilson; Harris Bruce; Dana Brand; JJ
Moultrie-Waring; Rowan Ormiston; and Kieran Wilson.
A fantastic days competition
from these aspiring young swimmers who represented InCAS in good form.

BRITISH GAS SCOTTISH NATIONAL AGE
GROUPS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2011 |
Some of West Fife’s most
talented swimmers represented the newly formed Fife Performance Swim
Squad at the Scottish National Age Groups Championships held at the
International swimming venue at Tollcross, Glasgow over four days of
competition between 7-10 April.
The principle behind the
squad, which is open to swimmers from all ten Clubs within Fife who have
the ability to meet the squad criteria, enables the swimmers compete as
Fife Performance Swim Squad at all National competitions and selected
meets in England or abroad, and swim with their home Clubs at District
and other domestic competitions.
Top swimmer in terms of
medals was InCAS swimmer, 12 year old Tain Bruce, in the Girls 10-12
years age group. Tain amassed an outstanding 6 Scottish National Age
Group Champion titles over the course of the competition. Her individual
titles came in the 100m Butterfly, in a new East District Age Group
Record of 1:07.18; the 200m Butterfly; 100m and also the 200m
Freestyle; 200m and 400m IM’s. Tain’s swims all resulted in personal
best times being set, with the greatest improvement coming in the 200m
Butterfly achieving a 11.45 second improvement.
Another InCAS swimmer, 11
year old Lauren Pirouet, also demonstrated her worth in the 10-12 years
age group. Lauren won a silver in the 1500m freestyle event in time of
18:58.31 which set a new Scottish National Age Group Record, and beat
the previous record by some 32 seconds. This time also set a new East
District Age Group Record and also set a new East District Age Group
Record for the 800m freestyle with her split time from the 1500m event.
Lauren also reached five finals finishing fourth in the 200m freestyle,
fifth in the 200m backstroke setting two new East District Age Group
Records in the process, seventh in the 400m IM, and eighth in the 100m
backstroke despite recovering from sickness earlier in the day which
forced her withdrawal from the 400m freestyle. A fantastic achievement
swimming against 12 year olds.
Tain and Lauren also
competed in the Girls 11-13 Years relay events, alongside Morven
Rae-Seaman and Rachel Smith of FINS. The team excelled and won the 4 x
200m freestyle relay in a time just 2 seconds outside of the Scottish
Record, and shall now represent Scotland at the British Age Group
Championships to be held at Ponds Forge, Sheffield in July. The quartet
also secured two further bronze medals in the 4 x 100m Medlay relay, and
the 4 x 100m freestyle relay.
Another InCAS swimmer
representing the Fife Performance Swim Squad was 12 year old Jack
Harrison in the 200m backstroke. Jack, in his first major national
competition shall extremely well to record a fantastic personal best
time of 2:44.67, and finish ahead of his adversaries.
Also competing in the Boys
relay team was InCAS swimmer, Conor Nally, who swam in the 4 x 100m
freestyle and 4 x 200m freestyle relays, finishing in 17th
and 16th places respectively.
All in all an excellent
representation by InCAS swimmers within the Fife Performance Swim Squad
team.

WARRENDER BATHS AGE GROUP MEET REPORT |
Last weekend saw an
opportunity for the younger swimmers within InCAS to compete in the
Warrender Baths Annual Age Group Meet held at Glenrothes pool to
demonstrate their worth, and what a show they put on.
Saturday saw the 9 and 10
years age groups take to the water, and they collectively gave InCAS
something to cheer about. Without a doubt two young swimmers stood out
above the rest with their strong performances throughout the day.
In the Boy’s 9 Years age
group, Harris Bruce, established an early authority over his rivals with
an outstanding swim in the opening event, the 100m IM, finishing some 5
seconds ahead of his nearest competition in a time of 1:26.62. Harris
then continued his form into the 50m backstroke event, again coming in
ahead to secure Gold in 39.22, establishing a new Meet Record in the
process. Not content with this strong start to his competition, Bruce
then looked to complete a successful morning with his favoured stroke,
the 50m butterfly, and again did not disappoint, finishing in 1st
place in 38.20, an amazing 7 seconds ahead of second place.
The afternoon session also
saw Harris demonstrate his worth at the longer distance in the 200m
freestyle, where once again he finished in top spot touching in on
2:39.82, another personal best time. He then went onto his 5th
event of the day in the 50m breaststroke, and recorded another 2 second
personal best time whilst taking the silver spot on the podium. At the
close of the day, in his final event, the 50m freestyle sprint Harris
captured his 5th Gold of the day in a close race and in turn
placing him as the 9 Years Top Boy Award.
Not to be outdone was 10
year old JJ Moultrie-Waring, who sought to emulate his younger teammate,
and he done so superbly demonstrating some lovely stroke technique and
race composure in his opening event, the 200m freestyle in which he
controlled the race from start to finish to record a time of 2:40.75,
some 11 seconds ahead of his competitors, and a new personal best time.
He then went into his next race, the 50m freestyle with some confidence
which allowed him to take the Gold medal after a strong swim in 33.29,
again another personal best time.
The afternoon saw Moultrie-Waring
continue with his good form in the 100m IM event, demonstrating all
four strokes with excellent execution. The next race also brought more
gold for JJ, with a controlled swim in the 50m backstroke, recording
another new personal best time of 39.69. The final race of the day for
JJ in the 50m butterfly, also brought more success to this young
aspiring swimmer achieving another Gold in 40.29, and yet another
personal best time. In all 5 Gold’s from 5 races, and 100% success
brought the accolade of the 10 Years Top Boy Award to JJ Moultrie-Waring.
The girl swimmers of InCAS
were equally keen to establish themselves on the first day of
competition, and they too produced some outstanding performances which
bode well for the future of InCAS.
Swimming in the 100m IM
event, top InCAS female was 9 year old Olivia Ballantine swimming her
first competitive IM race came in 8th position, and was
closing followed by her teammates, of Ellie Turner, Dana Brand, Ali
Moultrie-Waring, and Cara Smyth who all recorded personal best times,
with Dana and Cara EACH taking in excess of 22 seconds from their
previous times.
In the Girls 10 years age
group Leighona Harper performed well over the course of the days events
taking the 5th place medal in the 200m freestyle. Leighona
also went onto to consistently record finishes in the top 10, and no
less than 4 personal bests from her days swims.
In the girls 9 and under
group, the band of InCAS swimmers were joined by Rachel Ingram, with
Olivia Ballantine once again finishing as top InCAS performer in the 50m
backstroke closely followed by Dana Brand. In the 50m butterfly event,
young 7 year old Ellie Turner gave her performance of the day finishing
as the top InCAS swimmer recording an outstanding time of 52.13 and
finishing in 11th place in a group of 24 older swimmers.
In the girls 9 years 200m
freestyle, the trio of Olivia Ballantine, Dana Brand and Cara Smyth all
swam well to produce sizeable lifetime bests. Olivia also went on to win
a 5th place medal in the 50m breaststroke event in a time of
54.19, with Rachel Ingram finishing in a fine 10th spot.
The second day of
competition brought the 12 years old to compete, with InCAS represented
by Jack Harrison and Emily Adams.
Both Harrison and Adams
started their day’s competition in the 200m freestyle with Jack Harrison
securing a 6th place medal in a new personal best time of
2:28.46. Emily in her first competitive 200m freestyle race swam well to
record her first time and establish a benchmark for future competition.
Jack Harrison then went on
to improve upon his previous placing with a 5th place in the
50m freestyle, touching in on 31.36, another personal best time. And to
prove a point, Harrison then went on to finish in 4th spot in
the 200m IM taking some 12 seconds off his previous time. He then went
on to secure yet another medal placing in the 50m backstroke, taking 5th
place. An outstanding days performance from this young gentleman.
Emily Adams, showing
improvement throughout the day went onto compete in a further 4 events
and is looking encouraging for future competitions.
All in all, InCAS, despite
only taking a small contingent of swimmers consisting of Harris Bruce,
JJ Moultrie-Waring, Olivia Ballantine, Dana Brand, Cara Smyth, Ellie
Turner, Leighona Harper, Ali Moutrie-Waring, Rachel Ingram, Emily Adams
and Jack Harrison secured two Best Swimmer Awards, 10 Gold’s, 1 Silver
and an impressive 38 personal best times. An excellent weekend of
performances for InCAS. |

EAST DISTRICT AGE GROUP CHAMPIONSHIPS -
FINAL WEEKEND REPORT |
A small contingent of InCAS
swimmers qualified for the finals weekend of the East of Scotland
District Age Group Swimming Championships held at the Fife Institute of
Sport at Glenrothes last Saturday and Sunday with Tain Bruce and Lauren
Pirouet once again topping the podium, whilst setting a new Scottish
National Age Group Record and two East District Age Group Records.
The weekend saw these
swimmers excel once again in their respective age groups to secure
additional medals to add to their already impressive haul over the
course of the 4 weekends of competition.
Saturday saw 12 year old
Tain Bruce start her weekend with a 4th placing in the girls
12/13 years age group final of the 100m freestyle behind her 13 year
old competitors in a time of 1:02.32, a new pb. Tain then went onto
secure her first medal of the weekend, a bronze in the final of the 100m
backstroke in a time of 1:10.88.
The first day of competition
also saw 11 year old Lauren Pirouet commence proceedings with a silver
medal in the final of the girls 10/11 years age group 100m backstroke in
a new pb time of 1:13.21. She also went on to qualify for the finals of
the 100m breaststroke and finished a credible 5th place
overall.
The second day of
competition on Sunday saw both swimmers produce their best performances
with outstanding swims in their favoured events.
Tain Bruce excelled in the
final of the girls 12/13 years 100m butterfly event to take gold in a
new pb time of 1:05.89 which set a new Scottish National Age Group
Record for 12 years, and also a new East District Age Group Record, and
saw her move up to the No 1 position in the GB rankings.
Not to outdone by this
performance, Lauren Pirouet emulated her older teammate with an
incredible performance in the girls 10/11 years final of the 100m
freestyle producing a new East District Age Group Record time of
1:03.39, just 0.02 second outside of breaking the Scottish National
Record, whilst securing the gold medal and a new pb time. This result
ensured an impressive clean sweep of all the freestyle events by Lauren
winning the 100m, 200m, 400, 800m and 1500m events over the course of
the Championships. Lauren had earlier in the day also added a bronze
medal to her collection with a strong swim in the 100m butterfly finals.
These cumulative results together with her gold’s in the 400m IM and
200m backstroke events in previous weeks resulted in Lauren being
crowned as the Girls 10/11 years East District Age Group Champion for
2010/2011.
The weekend also saw other
InCAS swimmers qualify for the finals weekend, and they too swam well to
produce some excellent results. Young 10 year old JJ Moultrie-Waring
swimming in his first East District competition gave an admirable
performance in the boys 10/11 years 100m backstroke achieving a new pb
time of 1:24.53. JJ also swam on the Sunday afternoon in the 100m
freestyle event, recording a time of 1:14.28.
Older teammate, 11 year old
Jack Harrison went one better qualifying for the finals of both the 100m
backstroke in a time of 1:20.13, going on to finish in 5th
position, and also qualifying for the 100m freestyle, again finishing in
5th place in a time of 1:09.93 recording a new pb time
despite recovering from a virus.
In the girls 14-15 years age
group, 15 year old Kayleigh Hutton competing in the 100m freestyle
touched in on a time of 1:05.50.
Also representing InCAS in
the relays were new comers to the East Districts Rowan Orimiston,
Leighona Harper and Kirsty Pearson who along with Lauren Pirouet
competed in the girls 10/11 years 200m freestyle relay ultimately
finishing in 7th place in a time of 2:26.28 and enjoying the
experience of this level of competition.
Overall, a fantastic
representation from InCAS during the course of the Championships
securing the Girls 10/11 years Age Group Champion; 10 Championship
Titles, a Scottish National Age Group Record and 8 East District Age
Group Records over the 8 days of competition. |

EAST DISTRICT AGE GROUP CHAMPIONSHIPS
RESULTS & REPORT |
More Records Tumble for
InCAS Swimmers
Several InCAS swimmers were
in attendance at the penultimate round of the East District Age Group
Championships held on Saturday and Sunday, 5 and 6 March at the Fife
Institute of Sport, Glenrothes and once again demonstrated their worth
with an impressive display.
Two InCAS swimmers increased
their collection of medals from these Championships with notable swims
in their respective age groups.
Eleven year old Lauren
Pirouet, once again stamped her authority in the distance events
dominating the Girls 10-11 years 400m freestyle event to take Gold in a
new East District Age Group Record time of 4:45.28, achieving new
personal bests for the 100m and 200m splits, and placing her at No 1
within the GB rankings.
Lauren then went on to take
Gold in the Girls 10-11 years 200m backstroke in a time of 2:36.62,
setting another personal best time and narrowly missed out on a British
Qualifying time by 0.60 second.
Twelve year old Tain Bruce,
swimming in the Girls 12-13 years age group also had an outstanding
weekend of competition, notably in the 200m breaststroke in which she
rose from a 5th place ranking to secure Gold with a
incredible time of 2:45.13, which was only 0.40 second outside of a
British Qualifying time, and set a new East District Age Group Record
which had stood for 10 years.
Tain also added a Bronze
medal to her collection from the 400m freestyle event in a new personal
best time of 2:43.20, which placed her as the top 12 year old. To
complete her weekend Tain also took 4th place in the 200m
freestyle event, in a new personal best time of 2:16.30, and again
placed her as the top 12 year old within the event.
InCAS swimmers were not
however remaining in the shadow of their teammates victories and
achieved equally admirable results across the course of the weekends
competition.
Saturday saw 13 year old
Gabby Gatherer start her weekend with a new personal best time of
2:46.20 in the Girls 12-13 years 200m freestyle. On the Sunday, Gabby
swam in the 200m breaststroke recording a time of 3:18.11, and also the
100m breaststroke in 1:36.48.
In the Girls older age group
of 14-15 years, 15 year old Kayleigh Hutton opened her weekend with a
time of 1:14.94 in the 100m butterfly. Sunday saw an invigorated
Kayleigh achieve a new personal best time of 4:56.11 in the 400m
freestyle, and also record another personal best in the 200m freestyle
in 2:21.49. A welcome return to form for Kayleigh.
Erin Brown, 14, making her
comeback following a bout of illnesses demonstrated her skill, recording
an admirable time of 3:02.97 which was encouraging despite her lack of
training over recent months.
InCAS were also well
represented by their male swimmers, who despite their limited numbers
also demonstrated their worth, particularly in the Boys 10-11 years age
group. The quartet of JJ Moutrie-Waring, Jack Harrison, Joe Nally and
Hayden Moffat were in good form recording significant improvements
across the board.
Ten year old JJ Moultrie-Waring
swam extremely well in the Boys 10-11 years 400m freestyle, recording a
new personal best time of 5:41.86 as top 10 year old, and looks an
exciting prospect for taking the title in next years competition.
Eleven year old Jack
Harrison went one better, and took 5th place in the 400m
freestyle in an excellent personal best time of 5:22.17. Jack extended
his form in the 200m backstroke event and narrowly missed out on a
bronze medal placing 4th and recorded another personal best
time of 2:46.95, which qualifies Jack for the forthcoming Scottish
National Age Groups meet in April.
Joe Nally, 11, narrowly
missed out on a new PB in the 400m freestyle event coming in on 5:40.52.
Joe did however go on to swim in a new best time in the 200m backstroke
but was declined of recording the time due to a technical infringement.
Teammate, Hayden Moffat, 11,
with only a single swim over the weekend competing in the 200m
backstroke event finished in 7th place in a new personal best
time of 2:52.78.
In the Boys 12-13 years age
group, 13 year old Conor Nally also started his weekend in a positive
manner setting a new personal best in the 200m freestyle in 2:21.06.
Conor went onto the 400m freestyle later on the Saturday afternoon to
record a second personal best of the day in 4:48.24.
A good weekend’s work from
these InCAS swimmers achieving 3 Gold’s, 1 Bronze; 2 East District Age
Group Records and a huge haul of personal best times.

STIRLING SWIMMING JUNIOR OPEN MEET &
LIVINGSTON DOLPHINS PRESS REPORT |
A small contingent of four
swimmers represented InCAS at the prestigious Stirling Swimming Junior
Open Meet held at The Peak Sports Centre, Stirling over the weekend of
22 and 23 January. With many of Scotland’s major Clubs represented the
level of competition was of a high calibre but the InCAS swimmers were
happy to rise to the challenge.
On the first day of
competition, Erin Brown shone as InCAS top performer in the girls 13
years age group 100m Breaststroke event. Erin qualified in her heats in
a time of 1:25.56, and secured her place in the finals held later in the
day. Erin went on to produce a strong swim to secure her first medal of
the year taking Silver in a time of 1:24.97. An exceptional result and
places her well for the Scottish Schools event. Also competing in the
Girls 13 years 100m Breaststroke was teammate Gabby Gatherer who
recorded a time of 1:36.82 in the preliminary heats.
In the boys events InCAS
were represented by the duo of Hayden Moffat and Jack Harrison. Jack
opened his day in the boys 11 years 100m backstroke event, recording a
time of 1:22.98 which would have given him a personal best had it not
been for a technical infringement. Jack went onto to compete in the boys
11 years 200m freestyle with his teammate Hayden Moffat lining up
against him in the adjacent lane. The two InCAS swimmers produced an
excellent race to pull ahead of their competitors and fought hard to the
final touch with Hayden taking the honours in a time of 2:37.89, and
Jack literally a fingernail behind in 2:37.97. Both times were personal
bests.
Erin Brown went onto swam
admirably in the heats of 13 years 200m IM recording a time of 2:56.58
despite a lack of race training. The close of Saturday saw Hayden Moffat
in the heats of the 100m breaststroke, swimming in a time of 1:37.46 to
bring his day to an end.
The second day of
competition saw Hayden Moffat and Jack Harrison compete in the 100m IM
with both recording two excellent Personal Bests, 1.25.14 and 1.26.71
respectively. Both then went on to compete in the 100m Freestyle, once
again both producing very good personal best times with Hayden in
1.14.40 and Jack in 1.14.58. The afternoon session saw Hayden qualify
for the 100m Butterfly final in 6th place in a superb
Personal Best of 1.25.10, and ultimately finishing in 5th
place in the finals. Erin Brown also competed in the 100m Freestyle
recording a very good Personal Best time of 1.10.78.
Not to be outdone by their
older Club mates Saturday 22 January also saw a group of InCAS younger
swimmers compete in the annual Livingston & District Dolphins Graded
Meet held in Whitburn. What a show the youth swimmers put on with every
single swimmer achieving at least two Personal Best times. Rebecca
Wilson 4 PB’s, Katelyn McNeil 4 PB’s, Aaron Hurst 2 PB’s, Cara Smyth 3
PB’s, Dana Brand 3 PB’s, Olivia Ballantine 3 PB’s, Rachel Ingram 3 PB’s,
Leighona Harper 4 PB’s and Millie Knox 3 PB’s. An excellent weekend for

EAST DISTRICT AGE GROUP CHAMPIONSHIPS
REPORT |
The first
leg of the East District Age Group Swimming Championships took place at
the Fife Institute Glenrothes on Saturday & Sunday 6th/7th
November.
A dozen
Incas swimmers competed in various age groups, distances and strokes. 12

time Tain went even faster winning the Gold in 5.16.05 a huge PB and

IM and a nine second PB in 5.45.03. Lauren then totally controlled the

CARNEGIE LC WINTER MEET REPORT |
Two young
protégés who swim for the Incas swimming club from Inverkeithing had an
absolute superb weekend competing in the 50m International pool in
Glasgow, where the 2014 Commonwealth Games will be held.
On the
first day 11 year old Lauren Pirouet swimming in the 11 and under age
group started with a bang. Her first swim in the 200m Backstroke in a
time of 2.45.12 gave her not only the Gold but also a massive PB and an
East District Age Group record by over two seconds. Her next swim in the
400m Free saw Lauren win another Gold in 5.01.81 only 0.8 of a second
outside the British Age Group qualifying time with ten months still to
go. Lauren came out of the 400m Free to swim in the 100m Backstroke and
once again proved her worth with another Gold in 1.18.19.
Lauren's team-mate 12 year old Tain Bruce although swimming in the 12/13
years age group had an outstanding first day qualifying for the final
in the 100m Breaststroke and finishing in 6th place in a PB
of 1.29.46. Tain then competed in the 200m Breastroke with a 4 second PB
to win a 4th placed medal in 3.05.30. Tain also swam in the
400m Free once again knocking 12 seconds from her PB to finish in 7th
place.
On the
Sunday Lauren won a superb Gold in the 200m Free in 2.26.54 (PB), and
also an outstanding Gold and time in the 100m Free in 1.07.97 just half
a second outside the British qualifying time. Lauren also picked up two
Silvers in the 50m Free in 31.74 (PB) and the 200m IM in 2.54.27.
Altogether five Gold’s, 2 Silvers gave Lauren the Top Female 11 and
under Award.
Tain
Bruce went on to win an outstanding Silver in the 100m Butterfly final
in a huge PB time of 1.13.39, also making the finals in the 50m Free
finishing 9th in 31.65 (PB), 200m IM 2.43.89 6th
place (PB) and 200m F/C 6th place 2.26.36 (PB).
These
two young swimmers have their next sights set on the Scottish National
Age Groups next April at the same venue. |
