20/08/2008 17:22 PRESS RELEASE British Age Group Swimming Championships 2008 - SHEFFIELD

Two InCAS swimmers competed at the British Age Groups Championships in Sheffield in July/August.

Rachel O'Donnell had her 12th birthday in the car on the way to Sheffield, which meant she had to swim in that Age Group. She had already qualified for the 200m Freestyle and 200m Individual Medley.

Rachel’s first swim in the 200 m Free was tremendous achieving over a two second personal best. Four days later Rachel swam out of her skin in the 200 m IM heats to achieve a 3 second PB and qualify for the finals. She repeated her time to finish in tenth place.

The second week featured 15 year old Roisin Donnelly who qualified for the 200m and 100m Breastroke. Her first swim in the 200m breaststroke saw her just miss out on the final. She finished as Reserve for the final. But Roisin made no mistake in the 100m Breaststroke, qualifying for the Semi-Final in a time of 1.16.61. Roisin went on to qualify for the final in a superb PB time of 1.16.13. Roisin finished in 8th place in 1.16.23.

We should not underestimate the magnitude of these swims. This was an excellent performance from both of these two athletes hoping to compete for their Country in the future.
