InCAS are a competitive club and, as such, we enter
competitions, which are known as galas or meets.
In Scotland, these competitions are governed by SASA, which is the
Scottish Amateur Swimming Association. Scottish swimmers have to be
registered on an annual basis and are allocated a SASA number.
Most galas have a qualifying time, which must have previously
been attained. The organisers then sort all the entries and usually take
the fastest swimmers. As this excludes the slower inexperienced swimmers,
there are galas specifically aimed at these swimmers and are known as
graded or development galas. We also enter the East District Championships
that normally run over 4 separate weekends between November and March and
we also enter the 3 Scottish Championships the Short course, the Age Groups
and the Open – these are normally held in January, April and June each
year. Incas also hold their own two popular galas each year – normally in
June and October.
For each gala, a green notification sheet (for
information only) is put on the club notice boards at Caley and
Inverkeithing listing the swimmers and which swims the Head Coach has
indicated they may be eligible to enter. Occasionally a swimmer may have
been overlooked or the Head Coach may have a valid reason for not selecting
a swimmer for the meet. If your child hasn't been selected to enter a meet
and you think they should have been, please speak to the Head Coach to
resolve matters. You will also find details of the name, date, and location
of the Gala; the entry fee (per swim), and the warm up times for each
session. Age is normally calculated as age on day (of the gala) or
sometimes age at end of year 31st December. There will also be a
last payment date detailed (this is normally about a week before the
closing date on Swimscotland.co.uk. This is very important
so that the Head Coach has sufficient time to send the entries away and
deal with any arising problems. The gala secretary then has to complete the
corresponding summary sheet and post the cheque for the correct amount of
swims entered by this closing date.
If you wish to enter the Gala, you must see Janine Pirouet (acting
gala secretary) who will take your gala entries. Janine will have an entry
sheet on which swims not required can be crossed out. To enter for a gala
InCAS has to pay the club/district holding the gala for each of the
intended swims up front and we therefore require payment before your child
can be entered for the gala.
Payments must be made in full and must be made by the last
payment date.
If payment is not received by the last
payment date specified then the
entry will not be submitted.
Please do not leave gala entries to the very last
minute as Janine will not be available at every session. It is a good idea
to keep a note of the swims you have entered and paid for and even more
important to note the date of the gala!
Once notification has been received of accepted
swims, these will be posted on the notice board on a pink Acceptance
Sheet. If there are any swims which your child has not been accepted
then please see Janine for a refund . Reserve swims must be paid for if
they are offered on the day of the gala even if you decide to withdraw from
these. If they are not offered on the day then you will
receive a refund. Unfortunately no refunds are given for withdrawal from a
gala but if you are aware in advance you need to withdraw please let Janine
know as this may allow a reserve swimmer to be advised they can now swim.
