InCAS are a competitive club
and, as such, we enter competitions which are known as Galas or Meets.
In Scotland, these
competitions are governed by
SASA which is the Scottish Amateur Swimming Association. Scottish
swimmers have to be registered on an annual basis and are allocated a SASA
number. SASA members may also compete outside of Scotland in countries ruled
by other bodies, e.g. England is governed by Amateur Swimming Association (ASA).
In the main, Galas have a
qualifying time which must have previously been attained. The organisers
then sort all the entries and take the fastest swimmers. As this excludes
the slower inexperienced swimmers, there are Galas specifically aimed at
these swimmers and are known as Graded or Development Galas.
For each Gala, a notice
is put on the club notice board ( HMS
Caledonia) listing the swimmers and which swims they are eligible to enter.
Also on this notice board you will find the name, date, and location of the
Gala, the entry fee (per swim), the warm up times for each session and a
note as to the way the age of the swimmer is calculated. This will be either
age at the end of the year or age on a particular date which is usually the
day of the Gala.If you wish to enter the
Gala, simply multiply the number of swims by the cost of each swim and make
payment to our Gala Secretary Pauline Lawson. This must be done before
the payment closing date as indicated on the gala entry sheet
. Late payments for entries cannot be accepted and you will lose your
chance of swimming. Any swims which are
not desired may be crossed out. To enter your child for a gala we have to
pay the club holding the event for each of the intended swims up front,
hence the reason for asking for advance payment. For any swims where you are
not
accepted, a full refund will be issued. The acceptances are posted on the
notice board normally about 2 weeks from the event - the yellow sheets. Make
note of the time date venue and warm-up sessions for each gala. You must
attend the warm-up even although you may not be swimming until much later in
the session. Follow the instructions of your coach and/or poolside helper at
all times.
We also enter teams into
the Fife Leagues. These are held over four days through the year, normally
the last Sunday in March, April, May and August. They are split into three
categories, Novice, Intermediate and Premier. Swimmers will be informed via
the notice board if they are chosen to represent the club at the leagues.
Please let the coaches know if swimmers are available or not for the leagues
by either signing or indicating 'not available' on the League notice. The
Club pays the entry fees for the leagues.
