Scottish Institute of Sport Paralympics Athletes

Once every four years, the finest athletes from across the entire UK assemble under the Team GB banner to participate in the world's greatest festival of sport, the Olympic Games. Whilst the games last only for 17 days of competition, the memories last a lifetime for those lucky enough to be chosen to compete.

Over the years, Scottish athletes have distinguished themselves in this demanding environment and have earned the right and accolade to call themselves Olympian. Four years ago in the Sydney Paralympics Games, the InCAS had two such athletes, namely Lara Ferguson and Andrew Lindsay.

Lara Ferguson won Silver in the 4 x 100m Medley Relay and Bronze in the 100m Breaststroke whilst Andrew Lindsay collected Gold in the 100m Backstroke.

Since returning from Sydney, both swimmers have worked really hard in training and with great determination and commitment. For their efforts, both Lara and Andrew have been chosen once again to represent Team GB this year in Athens. They will meet up with 4 other Scottish swimmers, Jim Anderson, Kenneth Cairns, Mhairi Love and Margaret McEleny to make up the Scottish contingent of the GB Aquatics Team.

It is an excellent achievement to be selected to represent the GB Team and an even greater achievement to succeed at the Paralympics Games. To win a medal would put them amongst the best in the world.
