What is the Fife League?

The Fife Novice League/Fife League is open to SASA affiliated swimming clubs throughout Fife and is an annual tournament.  The tournament consists of four monthly meets held between March-June, a memorial gala event in September (Geordie Wotherspoon Gala) and a final, The Fife Championships, normally held in October. Points are awarded to each club for each age group event and are carried forward to the Fife Championship Finals.

Fife Novice League is for our less experienced swimmers and is designed to give them experience of taking part in a swimming gala without too much pressure. If a swimmer swims too fast in a Novice League event, he/she is awarded a "flash" and is not allowed to swim in that event again. The Club also gain penalty points. Points are awarded to the Club  for placement in each event.  As well as the normal four strokes, there is a team relay event made up of the individual team members depending on age. For example, if you were chosen to swim 25m Fly event for girls 9 and under, then you would swim that stroke as part of the girls 9 and under relay team.

It is therefore very important that you attend the event if selected by your coach as failure to attend, not only loses points for the Club but also means that your age group team mates cannot compete in the relay and the Club therefore also lose more points. If you have been selected and you know you cannot attend an event, please let you coach know as soon as possible so that an alternative selection can be arranged. We accept that illness on the day cannot be accounted for.

Fife League is for more the more experienced swimmer who already has a qualifying time for the event entered.  The format is as for the Novice League, but the events are more demanding. It is judged as a Level 2 meet. Most league events are held at FIPRE in Glenrothes.

All participating clubs are requested to supply STO's and time-keepers to help run the events. Failure to supply sufficient officials, will result in the club receiving a fine. Each club is also asked to host a meet throughout the season. Additional help is required on these occasions to assist with the marshalling of swimmers, help at the recorders desk and man the admissions table. You will be notified in advance of any requirement. Your help is appreciated.
